Hispania Wargames 2013. Part 1 - Madrid

Hispania wargames event held in the town of Alhaurin de la Torre, a suburb of Malaga. Malaga - is south of Spain. But as we travel through Madrid, the first part of the report will be just about this city.

Hispania Wargames 2013

Generally abot Spain: there is very warm, and secondly, almost no one speaks English.

symbol of Madrid - bear overeat arbutus.

By the way, I found the arbutus. It has some cherry-sized fruits. To taste - a bit like strawberries. But it can be eaten only by bears because of the huge number of tiny seeds. moreover, there are oranges and tangerines grow and mature on streets . Oranges are sour, but with coffee - maybe. When I tore tangerines, local beggars looked at me somehow .. perplexity . Image of a bear found on the manhole cover. Depending on the quality of the casting, the bear is thinner or fatter.

Street names and house numbers in Spain ( not only in Madrid ) are marked with beautiful ceramic tiles with pictures. And the pictures are usually correspond to the title. Here's something with german landsknechts. Dictionary tells us that the "Calle de tudescos" means " Street of the barbarians" They do not like the Germans for some reason ..

Spain strongly respected shutters, probably because of the summer heat. It is unclear what they are not catered to conventional blinds, but 99% of all adorn the windows here are blind:

We really had to walk only on the center and the old town, residential areas have not seen. The Center produces a completely medieval experience. " Medieval "- not hackneyed and architectural sense - old houses are not so much less than in the same Tallinn. General mood - it is ... carnival . There is temporary walking crowd, the people ( not only tourists , by the way , a lot of Native Spaniards ) around - musicians , beggars, some mimes, clowns, fakirs, many outdoor eatery . Moreover, they are very religious, as expected . Overall - Christmas nativity scenes, images of baby Jesus, clerical shops, of course - hunreds of temples and churches . this is some saint with a pig:

New Year in Spanish style. In general, very funny look all these paper snowflakes and glass icicles on a background sun and the ripening oranges :)

This is royal palace. There is asrenal - Real Armeria. I would say was the biggest sorrow for the entire trip. The fact that the arsenal is fine - there is more armor and weapons, than in the Knights' Hall of the Hermitage. Combat and parade, mostly - 16-17 century, as I like. But there's fucking impossible to male a photo. At all. Even for money. Because remember all this beauty is totally unrealistic, and catalogs they sold there some miserable. It will be necessary to search it in the web, or something..

This National Library. In the same building is the Archaeological Museum, it is closed until April. Had to settle for a statue of Velázquez:

... and, of course, Goya:

and at his feet - naked Cayetana Alba surrounded by demons ^___^:

In Prado practiced a wonderful thing - free admission from 6 to 8 pm almost every day. There is wonderful - Goya, Velazquez, a lot of the Renaissance masters , the historic 19th century Spanish painting and other pleasures. Antique sculptures yet. There is also impossible to make a photo, sorrow.

It's just a stone girl :

In addition, Madrid has a maritime museum . There's a free "waiting room ", and then we did not go further because we are not big fans of the sea. here are somepictures :

About the Spaniards:

1. Spaniards wildly noisy and talkative . If two people on the bus talking to each other through three seats without lowering his voice, it does not mean that they are familiar . This means that they just found something to talk about . At the same time - they are quite friendly. For example, you come to the store to exchange money - that woman will look at the box office , will look into the pockets , will call her husband from the back room , it all shake out and you still will exchange your 10 euros :)

2. In terms of looks - everything is pretty thin, they have narrow faces. Noses too narrow, not like Arabs and others. By the way, in Malaga and Madrid there are almost no arabs and turks. Spanish women in general - are pretty or very beautiful :) I did not pictures, my wife would not approve. Old men looks very noble, and young guys look like a real macho (my wife appreciated it!) Thre are a million policemen in Madrid. They have black uniform, all with pistols (don't know - traumatic or combat ) , look very impressive. We only shot some mounted patrol in the park:

3. Most terrible thing is the famous "siesta". Simply put, almost all is closed from 15 hours to 19-20 . It means - restaurants and cafe shops too 0_o And in the winter - no heat, but there is a siesta anyway. About cuisine: all cafes have a "menu of the day ." Choose first dish from 5 different , the second of the 5 options too + bread, drink and coffee/dessert. it's all worth 9-12 euros. If successfully select the cafe and the dish, you can eat very well. Only one ambush - the menu in Spanish, in English no one says, let start culinary lottery :) We stopped at a great place, where I served as a drinking wine in an amount not glass, but a small bottle :) Also, as a second dish I have a beer's joy - a huge plate with sauerkraut, chick-pea and many kinds of meat/fat/chickens Here's a photo:

My wife got a stewed rabbit. Very tasty, but the rabbit, along the way, ended his days in a minefield - all stew was mixed with small stones:

This is the famous food market. There is likely a giant cafe, where all people sell different kinds of sweets and drinks, snacks, seafood, jamon, and then eat it:

And finally - if you will visit Spain, take some time and look at the store this black bottle. It's Pedro Ximenez's sherry. This is something absolutely incredible - absolutely black sweet wine with some fantastic bouquet of aromas, dense and oily. Price is about 3-5 euros.

Only make no mistake - we bought the day before another bottle called "sherry" produced by another firm, it was completely nightmarish stuff, dry as a cork . We imagine that it was made of vodka and mixed "screwdriver" cocktail, because otherwise it is impossible to drink. in short, I was a tenth of impressions not stated .. Soon I will write about Malaga and, in fact, about the event.
